Galop, the UK’s LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, is seeking a Survivor Engagement Manager. Galop works directly with thousands of LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence every year. We specialise in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called conversion therapies. We are a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of our community are at the centre of what we do. We are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma- informed – meaning our focus is always on helping our clients decide what is best for them, and then supporting them through their journey.
We are looking to recruit a Survivor Engagement Manager. This new role will lead the development of Galop’s approach to survivor engagement, ensuring that LGBT+ survivors are at the centre of all of our work. This role combines the need for a strategic outlook, alongside practical frontline skills in working with those who have experienced trauma. You will be experienced in managing complex projects that centre survivors and juggling competing priorities. You will be a team player who is able to work collaboratively across the organisation, including staff, volunteers and trustees, bringing people together to make change. Anti-oppression and a clear understanding power and power dynamics will be at the heart of your practice, designing processes, systems and projects with the most marginalised within our community in mind.
We are looking for someone with experience of trauma-informed practice and who seeks to empower those that they are working with. You will have excellent influencing skills and be able to bring together groups of people to make change for LGBT+ survivors.You will be responsible for:
- Working collaboratively across Galop teams to embed survivor engagement across the organisation
- Development of Expert by Experience group(s), ensuring structures are in place to ensure to diverse LGBT+ survivors can engage with and lead this work
- Co-designing and delivering a programme of activities with and for LGBT+ survivors in line with Galop’s survivor engagement strategy
- Developing and implementing robust monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure that Galop is able to assess the effectiveness of the work and demonstrate the difference it is making.
- Working with Galop’s policy, research and comms teams to ensure that Survivor voices are at the centre of our external work
- Working with Galop’s services team to ensure survivors are at the centre of the design, development and delivery of services.
You will work closely with the Director of Development to:
- Develop and implement Galop’s Survivor Engagement Strategy, ensuring that survivor voice is at the centre of Galop’s work
- Build effective external relationships, including with funders, commissioners and partner organisations.
- Manage the Survivor Engagement budget
Essential and Desired Criteria:

E- Excellent understanding of the lived experiences of LGBT+ survivors of gender-based violence.
E- Experience of supporting and working with survivors of gender based violence and designing safe and empowering methods of engagement.
E- Experience of designing and delivering workshops with survivors or ‘experts by experience’ within the voluntary sector.
E- Experience of trauma-informed group facilitation, and managing complex group dynamics.
E- Understanding of the specific needs of diverse LGBT+ survivors.
E- Strong understanding of delivering empowerment-based and trauma-informed work.
E- Excellent project planning and management skills, with the ability to lead a complex programme of work independently.
E- Experience of safeguarding and managing risk.
E- A demonstrable commitment to anti-oppressive working practices.
D- Experience of working collaboratively/in partnership to influence change both within and outside of an organisation.
D- Demonstrable training skills and ability to communicate complex information in a digestible and engaging format.
D- Lived experience related to the work that Galop does.

The post will focus primarily on funding for posts, scholarships and access and outreach in the academic faculties as well as securing support for the activities of the Cultural Programme and Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities. An interest and appreciation for the arts and humanities is essential.

- To be an experienced development professional with a strong track record of securing major gifts and the ability to secure gifts in the range of £100k-£1m+
- Confidence to work with people from a range of backgrounds, both internally and externally
- The ability to think creatively in prospecting, cultivation and stewardship
